If MyHomes were a hotel, it would have 400 rooms

With close to 100 holiday homes across Europe, nearly 700 co-owners and thousands of people using the properties throughout the year, MyHomes has grown considerably since it was founded ten years ago. In terms of scale, the operation can now be compared to a large hotel. The difference is that the “rooms” are spread across some of Europe’s most attractive locations – and designed to feel anything but like a hotel.

Put all the MyHomes properties under one roof, and the result would be quite a hotel.

Close to 100 holiday homes, with room for an average of eight people in each, means that around 800 people can stay in MyHomes homes at the same time. At full capacity, that corresponds to almost 300,000 overnight stays a year – or roughly the equivalent of a hotel with 400 double rooms.

Except, of course, there is no single address.

The homes are spread across Europe, from Piedmont and Mallorca to the French Alps, the Côte d’Azur and southern Spain. And behind them is an operation that has become considerably more complex as MyHomes has grown.

Making something complex feel simple

Today, nearly 700 co-owners – together with their families and friends – use the homes throughout the year.

Keeping everything running takes much more than beautiful properties in desirable locations. Every week, more than two tonnes of bed linen and towels are washed, while approximately 10,000 square metres are cleaned and prepared for new arrivals.

And that is only the part owners see.

MyHomes has a team of around 30 employees, supported by a network of local partners built up over the past decade. Across Europe, more than 500 people contribute to everything from property management, cleaning and maintenance to renovation, interior design and local services.

For founder and CEO Finn Christensen, that scale is one of the clearest illustrations of how far the company has come.

“What strikes me today is not only how much MyHomes has grown, but how much needs to work behind the scenes for the experience to feel simple and make financial sense for each individual owner.”

100 homes – each with its own character

The hotel comparison only goes so far.

Over the years, MyHomes has transformed nearly 100 very different properties: rustic country houses in Piedmont, chalet apartments in the French Alps, contemporary villas in southern Spain and classic Scandinavian holiday homes.

Each home reflects its location and architecture. Yet there are common threads.

Functionality. Quality. Thoughtful design. Materials chosen to last. And, perhaps most importantly, the feeling of arriving somewhere that feels like a home rather than temporary accommodation.

That approach has been part of MyHomes from the beginning. Properties are selected, renovated and furnished with the idea that owners should want to return again and again – rather than simply visit once.

The ambition has not changed

When Finn Christensen founded MyHomes in 2016, the ambition was not to create a hotel business.

It was to find a better way to own holiday homes.

A model that would make it possible to have a base in several favourite locations across Europe rather than having to choose just one. And one that would remove much of the time, administration and practical responsibility traditionally associated with owning a holiday home abroad.

Ten years later, the operation behind MyHomes is comparable in scale to that of a sizeable hotel. But the underlying ambition remains remarkably simple.

“The idea has always been to make it easy to have extraordinary places to return to. Places and local communities where, over time, you begin to feel that you belong,” says Finn Christensen.

That may ultimately be the biggest difference between MyHomes and a hotel.

You do not simply check in.

You come back.
