We’ve asked an owner 7 questions about being a co-owner of 5 holiday homes in Europe. Read below to find out what Søren Thrane, an owner in one of our Comfort associations, has to say.

Søren Thrane has been a MyHomes owner since 2021, when he bought into one of our Comfort associations. He is married to Marie-Louise, and together they have two children who have now left their home in North Zealand. We caught up with Søren on a cold winter day to hear about his experiences as a MyHomes owner, and it turned into a great conversation about expectations, joys, and revelations.

What made you decide to buy a share in MyHomes?

For a long time I had wanted to buy my own holiday home, and I was particularly interested in Italy. What held us back at the time was that we didn’t want to be forced to go to the same place every time we traveled. Furthermore, I actually didn’t want the hassle of owning a property abroad. Therefore, a concept like MyHomes makes a lot of sense. I’ve been familiar with the concept of owning holiday homes for many years, so I was already very familiar with it.

The fact that we could get five homes in such different locations was crucial to our decision to buy a share. Now we have our “own homes” – without the obligations. Last but not least, it’s a bonus that we have homes in our absolute favorite locations.

What is it like to have homes in five different places?

It’s one of the strengths of the concept, and as I said before, we value the variety in the vacations we take. Mallorca is a lovely holiday island where you relax and enjoy the good weather. There, we have a wonderful apartment with a unique terrace overlooking the bay of Port d’Andratx. I’ve already been there three times – both with family and friends. It’s relaxation and cozy moments.

Beforehand, I didn’t know much about Villefranche, but I must say, that location has pleasantly surprised me. The apartment is within walking distance to the harbor and promenade, and the town is very charming. Here, there’s life in the best way, and it’s easy to get around. Nice, Cannes, and Monaco are super close by, so you have plenty to do and experience.

Rome is such a beautiful city, and we look forward to visiting our apartment there very soon. We can keep up with things through our association’s private Facebook group, where photos and stories from the homes and locations are shared.

The house in Piemonte isn’t finished yet, as it had to be built from scratch, but it will be ready by summer, and we’ve already booked it for later in the year. We love Italy, so it might just become our favorite spot.

That being said, we recently visited Megève for the first time. I must say, Megève is truly a delightful town. It’s very exclusive, with some great restaurants that have a cozy atmosphere. The apartment is also fantastic with amazing terraces.

How is it to share the homes with other families?

It actually works surprisingly well, and it’s cool to arrive at the homes and see what the previous family has stocked in the fridge. We have a private Facebook group in the association where you can write if you want to swap weeks or have good tips for the areas. Many also share holiday photos and stories from their stays. You decide for yourself how ‘active’ you want to be, but the opportunity is there.

Do the homes have everything you need?

Yes, and more. The advantage of owning instead of renting through platforms like Airbnb or hotels is that we have all the essentials we need. We can cook food and have a cold beer, even if we arrive late at night. And there is simply EVERYTHING in the homes. It’s absolutely fantastic. I’m incredibly impressed and pleasantly surprised by all the things that have been thought of. It’s completely ingenious. Additionally, there is a “welcome book” in all our homes describing everything you need to know. It’s thorough and professional – and educational – so we don’t have to be in doubt about anything.

Is there enough space in the Comfort homes?

In principle, yes. Most of the time we travel alone, or go away with a friend or the children. Our children have also planned weeks in the homes this year, where they travel without Marie-Louise and me. It’s great that we can lend out the homes so they get used. However, I wouldn’t rule out that at some point we might switch to a Premium, where there is room for more people, but for us, the most important thing is the locations, and the mix we have now is spot on.

Can you book the weeks you want?

We book a lot of weeks because we have the opportunity to travel a lot. Sometimes we just travel for an extended weekend, and other times it’s longer stays. We don’t want to travel during the summer holidays, as we live where we do and like to stay in Denmark during the summer. I also think it’s an advantage to travel during off-peak times. For example, it doesn’t have to be over 30 degrees in Mallorca, the island is wonderful at all times of the year.

Would you recommend others to buy a share in MyHomes?

The short answer is: Yes, definitely!

And if I have to highlight five good things about owning MyHomes properties, it’s:

– Easy.

– It’s cheaper than owning yourself – both in purchase and operation.

– We own five properties instead of one.

– We come “home”, but in five different places.

– It’s very high standard – both in terms of location and furnishings.
