The Sweet Christmas Time in Rome

We always create owner associations with versatile locations that thrive all year round, and that our owners love returning to regardless of the season. Rome is an example of a MyHomes location that captivates at all times of the year. You can read more below about experiencing the beautiful city during Christmas time as a MyHomes owner.

Christmas Atmosphere in Rome

Italy’s capital is adorned this time of year with orange and lemon trees lining the city’s many streets. Due to the dry and mild climate, it’s still possible to enjoy dinner outdoors, where restaurants have provided heat lamps and blankets. In December, Rome is characterized by a cozy Christmas atmosphere, as seen in the colorful Christmas decorations that decorate the magnificent city without overdoing it.

Shops, restaurants, and cafes decorate their facades beautifully with fir, Christmas balls, and lights. In Rome, much of the Christmas spirit is geared towards children, so most Christmas markets are aimed at the little ones, who can experience cozy stalls and fun musicals.

On every street corner, you can buy roasted chestnuts, and locals everywhere walk around with boxes of Italian Christmas cake under their arms. Pandoro and Panettone are the classic Christmas cakes, both sweet and airy, but whereas Pandoro is sprinkled with a fine layer of sugar, which you receive in a bag and can do at home, Panettone is filled with raisins and candied fruit.

Greetings from an Owner

Evita is an owner in one of our Comfort associations. She has just returned from her holiday home in Rome and is telling us about the cozy Christmas atmosphere. In the stairwell of the apartment, Evita and her husband were greeted by a beautifully decorated Christmas tree. Evita also talks about music floating through the streets:

“We had to open the windows because we could hear Christmas carols. And sure enough, there came singing Santa Clauses walking down the street with an orchestra.”

Authentic Experiences All Year Round

Rome is known for its unique history and magnificent architecture, but the city offers so much more than that, especially when you return:

“One might think, what else is there to see in Rome when we’ve already seen the historical monuments. But Rome has many facets of experiences and offers many activities,” highlights Evita.

The MyHomes property is located with easy access to the city center but also to lovely parks worth exploring. With a pleasant daytime temperature of around 15 degrees, the parks are well-visited at this time, and the warm rays of the sun can still be enjoyed from a bench. In the park, nearest the owners’ property, lies a beautiful old zoo, established in the early 1900s with lush areas for the animals to frolic in.

Rome also offers unforgettable culinary experiences, which can be authentically tested with cooking classes. These are offered by several of the city’s many restaurants and rarely take more than two hours. With the help of skilled chefs, Evita learned to make fettuccine and tiramisu from scratch, which were then prepared and served with a glass of wine:

“You get really close to the Italian kitchen”.

Local with the Locals

The apartment is located in the northeastern part of Centro Storico, surrounded by the old city walls. This northern part of central Rome is typically more exclusive and is therefore an attractive place for Romans to live. The neighborhood is filled with cozy restaurants, where locals have their everyday lives, and the authentic Italian atmosphere and culture are experienced.

“Our part of town is very lively at this time, and we eat with the locals at the restaurants around the property. We got to know our neighborhood even better this time and really feel at home in the area,” says Evita.

Overall, the number of tourists is smaller in the winter months than it might be in the summer, but the city is still bustling, especially in this area, where the locals shape the cityscape.

“It’s definitely a good time to visit the city now. Because we don’t live in a tourist area, the city is still bustling, and nothing is closed. It’s the same atmosphere whether you go there in summer or winter. The property is not seasonally affected and is just completely authentic”.
